Natural dye from the elderberry would give a nice lilac even without mordant. The colour variation from lilac to purple is interesting enough for me to try it as a natural dye for my sheep wool. The elderberry, Sambucus nigra, happens to have plenty of berries at the moment. I show you how I made the natural dye.
This month another DIY job that can only be done with fresh lavender. Namely a lavender wreath. If you are like me into lavender you have to try it sometime. And I must say I like the result. This wreath is made from Heavenly Scent lavandin and on our beautiful Spanish front door it looks really good. I will show you how I made the wreath.
Lavender wands or lavender botteles can only be made in the summer when the lavender is fresh. It is a bit of a chore, but once you get the hang of it, it looks and smells great.
I am sharing the steps with you.
The first pressed lavender flowers come out of the press beautifully! I have attached lavender flowers to cards before. The pressed flowers are much nicer for this.
Making a lavender flower press can’t be that hard, can it? But I don’t know what works best for lavender. So now that the first lavenders can be harvested I thought it would be a good time to try it out.

Kraft cardboard and the full colours of good dried lavender go together very well. Today I felt like doing a little DIY project. Make your own lavender invitation card from Kraft cardboard and lavender. You can, of course, buy envelopes and cards, but I happened to have Kraft cardboard. Besides, you can make your lavender invitation card so much more personal.
The dandelion has just started to bloom in the fields. I’m curious to see how natural dyeing wool with dandelion will turn out. Now that I have an abundance of sheep’s wool, the time has come to make something of it. I bought the book Wild Color by Jenny Dean and I’m eager to get started.
